While there are no aggregate figures for public transport usage in Dubai, the most populous emirate in the UAE, approximately 340 million public transport trips were made in 2020 (in a city of 3 million people).
This is an indicator of the rate of transition from a predominantly privately driven area to a public system.
Buses in the UAE: Public buses in the UAE are safe, efficient, and clean, with drivers trained in the skills of driving articulated vehicles.

In other parts of the UAE, if you are traveling from one emirate to another, you can board buses at the central bus stations.
These are equipped with restrooms, prayer rooms (for Muslims), and cafes/restaurants. If you are traveling within an emirate, buses can be boarded in an orderly manner at the bus stations.
Long-distance buses in the UAE
The UAE is a small country with excellent transport links, hence the longest journeys from one emirate to another.
For example, from Abu Dhabi to Fujairah, it's over 250 kilometers – taking up to five hours.
