Reliable public transportation, such as buses, can significantly reduce traffic congestion and, consequently, lower carbon emissions. To achieve this goal, MAPNA Group has taken steps to develop electric buses. To this end, the group has signed an agreement with the Mashhad Municipality to electrify the city's transportation system in northeastern Iran. MAPNA Electrical and Control Engineering and Manufacturing Company (MECO) will convert a diesel bus, conduct a feasibility study for electrifying the city's Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, and install three electric vehicle charging stations.
SHETAB Bus engineers explained that the Shetab electric bus features a unibody and chassis, unlike conventional vehicles. The low-floor bus has a step-less design and is built on a product lifecycle management (PLM) platform that enables multiple companies to simultaneously execute all technical processes, including detailed and general design, engineering, manufacturing, and project management.
The Shetab is an intelligent vehicle equipped with data center connectivity, an energy recovery system, fast charging, and an advanced display system. The bus's cooling system is specifically designed for the Iranian climate.
The bus has a range of 250 kilometers without the Shetab Bus Air Conditioner activated, and 200 kilometers with Bus Air Conditioner activated.
Shetab Bus engineers stated that the Shetab electric bus will be available in multiple configurations, each with varying battery capacities suitable for different routes. The bus is equipped with a high-speed pantograph charging system that allows it to be charged using AC power. MAPNA's proprietary 600-kW pantograph system enables a full charge in just 25 minutes.
Over 60% of the components in the Shetab electric bus are designed and manufactured in MAPNA's own factories. MAPNA plans to achieve 100% localization by investing in parallel development projects for batteries and motors.
